Voluminous Love

Skin-tight and red dresses have always been the rage for valentine's day, but this year I'm taking the initiative to change that perspective and show that a sexy silhouette can still be maintained with the help of statement pieces that isn't necessarily body clinging. And that aside, who doesn't like a good Carrie Bradshaw inspired outfit?

We dined at JJ Astor, a restaurant inside the Radisson Hotel in downtown Duluth. Having an extravagant meal at the very top of a revolving restaurant is definitely a first for us. Not only that, but the vintage vibe mixed in with modern touches was a nice accent to our date.

Valentine's day is all about the dramatics, and so when I saw this skirt I knew it had to somehow be factored into my plans. The vivid flow of the fabric calls attention to making a statement and the sequins gave this outfit the feel of stepping out of the ordinary. The warm color palette also kept the look very romantic. I kept the shoes simple but added the clear clutch for that avant-garde appeal. The crop top turned out to be a perfect companion for this supreme skirt. Whenever I choose to go big or bulky on the bottom, I like to juxtapose it with a tighter fitting top, or vise versa. This is usually the cardinal rule when matching tops and bottoms. A great piece that would look divine with graphic t-shirts and light jumpers, I can already envision this skirt paired with different outfits for the upcoming spring and summer.

This year's valentine happened to be a lot different than any other year we've celebrated together because I'm living farther away now, but that's what made it extra special because he made the plans, although we ended up cooking at home for the real  dinner anyways.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine's day, if not with someone else, hopefully it was with an awesome outfit <3
